I have never used Facebook and I certainly do not "hate" it. I have family and friends who do use it, however, and they seem to like it. If a "non-hater" can be allowed an opinion, I think it is a splendid thing that Mark Zuckerberg proposes doing. More power to his elbow!

Bog off, B00 :-)
I have been out all day and don't have time to read all the posts here but I amazed that people are bad-mouthing Mr Z and his plan to give billions of his shares away !
Can't stand FB or Twitter and will never use either.
I think its a fantastic thing Mr Z is doing. Who cares whether his donations are for an ulterior motive (as hinted at by others) as long as it helps those that need it, I hope he continues having one!

Nail on the head, B00..
It's not exactly the widow's mite, though. If he gave away all those shares today he would still be worth $450 million.

In my view charity should be private, not a public announcement to enhance one's reputation.

I wonder why he's not setting up his new organisation as a charity and instead as a limited liability corporation with himself as CEO? In effect he is channelling the money from one of his companies to another.
When it comes to the wealthy and philanthropy, their motives are always questioned.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

Still say it's lovely though.
I have never used Facebook, but good on them for doing that.
