When you say 'famous', I assume you mean that if you held up a photo of the person, the largest number of people would recognise them?

Using sp1814's criteria I would have to say The Queen , if Pope John Paul II was still alive I think it would be him but I don't think Benedict is that visually well known yet.

In a recent survey amongst 15 to 25 year olds world wide, involving a range of pictures that included Ghandi, Churchill, Einstein, Monroe, Presley, Stalin and Hitler, the most recognisable face turned out to be..............Ronald McDonald!!
