Do the free DVDs you get with the weekend papers played through the CD/DVD drive on a computer give a good indication of the quality I would get with a 'proper' DVD player/TV combination?

There seems to be a lot of 'freezing' on the computer screen.

It depends more on your computer's specifications. It shouldn't be freezing much.

Also, the free DVD's tend to be older films that the image quality isn't anywhere near what you get with modern films.

The freezing is probably to do with your PC specification or maybe the lens needs cleaning.
