What was your childhood like?
When I was very young we were pretty poor - hand me down clothes from cousins, very bad home haircuts and Christmas presents consisted of an annual, a selection box, one toy and three shiny brand new pennies.

Looking back now, it seems that the poorest people had the most stuff. I don't know how. My cousins lived on a council estate and their parents always struggled to pay the bills, but they all always had huge Christmas present piles. Another girl I remember from school lived on the same estate and she always had the trendiest clothes that no one had.
Two nieces and a nephew ( amongst 18 of them ) are not all that younger than me,my sisters children .They insist on calling me aunt J. ..lol.
I've lost count of the number of great and great greats :)
My cousins refer to me as aunt as they are the same age as my kids.
It's nice though. Most of them call me aunt J.
I always addressed my many aunts as aunt and my uncles the same, never just by their first names .My Mum and Dad were from big families. My Dad was one of twelve and my Mum one of eight. God knows how they managed in those days with all those children.
My nephews and nieces call me uncle knob-head:-(
Not poor but not comfortable either until I was 11.
Before that I remember the tin bath and the outside loo but we had enough to eat but little heat.
Life changed but even then I remember the beautiful frost patterns on my bedroom window.
We didn't have heating in the bedrooms and the house was freezing . We had washbasins in the bedrooms and our flannels would be frozen stiff in the mornings. Always had an aga in the kitchen and a fire in the lounge. At Xmas we also had a fire in the dining room and an oil heater in the hallway, but only at Xmas! Army blankets and always dressing gowns on top of the bed. Cold times indeed.
