Almost done but flogging a dead horse now ....
17A : Showing or exhibiting (9) : E?D?I?T?C
24A : Spenser's squeeze (7) : ?R?A?S?
10D : Celtic river god or a mythical king of Britain (3) : L?D
21D : Mental reservation (7,6) : A?R?E??,?E?S?E : I've been trying MENSAE for the 2nd word
23D : Descriptive of a Ländler (1,10) : A,?A?L?M?N?R
38D : Slang for a bomb or mine (3) : E?V: the 'V' comes from 'REVERSE' for 'move backwards'
Any help gratefully appreciated
Lie-In King : I take your point, but the crosser for 'EGG' has to start with 'R' and end with 'E' - the 'E' being the last letter of 'INCHMAHOME' Priory?
Then that just leaves me with the troublesome
23D : Descriptive of a Ländler (1,10) : A,?A?L?M?N?A - this time ending in an 'A' from REGRADE? could it be ending in something like ALLEMANIA?
Is the answer to 40 ac not " regrede"?
May I also ask a question of Lie-in King please? I know that Spenser uses the word presses in the Fairie Queene but where does the " squeeze" come in?
