London 'Best European Bargain Holiday Destination'

16:36 Mon 24th May 2010 |

According to a recent survey London is the best European bargain holiday destination.

The capital tops a poll for its free attractions and public parks – 35 per cent of respondents name it as the best. The poll was conducted by an online travel site which makes recommendations based on customer reviews.

Over 2,300 people contributed to the research, including one who states: "I have travelled quite a lot and there are no parks in the world like the ones in London, especially St James' Park."

Other green open spaces in the city include Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath, Regents Park and Wimbledon Common. All of these park are free to enter and are perfect places for relaxing after a hard days sightseeing. Many local residents take picnics to the parks on sunny days and simply watch the world go by while the kids play football or cricket. Often in the summer the parks are used as outdoor venues for music festivals, most notably Party in the Park in Hyde Park.

London comes out on top of the firm's poll for its nightlife – which could include clubs such as Fabric and the Camden Electric Ballroom. The Capital is home to many young people who bring the exuberance of youth to the city at night.

The survey was not entirely positive news for the city, however – its cuisine is rated the least tasty and the locals are deemed to be the "worst dressed". London is traditionally a melting pot of nationalities and so often the unique brutishness of the city can be lost under a cosmopolitan glamour. However, there are many pubs tucked away in side streets that still retain the old world qualities many foreign tourists associate with England and its Capital.

Of course, there is more to London than parks, nightlife and food. There is a multitude of sites to see and famous places to visit for all types of tourist. The city is a pleasure for young and old, families and lone travellers.
