This is probably a silly question, but I am going on a coach trip around LA, San Francisco, Vegas etc staying in various hotels, i.e. Hiltons etc . I want to take the least possible toiletries with me, I just need to make sure all the places we are staying have shampoo, conditioner, etc. in the rooms. I presume all hotels in USA provide this ? I am wondering cos we stayed in Holiday Inn in brighton a couple of weeks ago and they don't provide any little bottles of toiletries any more. Even breakfast is an extra ! Cut backs I suppose.

US hotels have always been several strata above ours - even though the UK hospitality industry has had to try and catch up with the rest of the world.

i think you can assume toiletries as a given in anythijng other than really basic accomodation - their service levvels and their clientele simply regard thiese things as basic ammenities, so don;t be put of by a UK hotel, they are not typical of the rest of the world.

Thanks Andy, I knew it was a silly question !
Breakfast is normally an extra in any US hotel though. Where included it's often just coffee and donuts - if the donuts haven't run out.
There are several US chains that provide excellent (full) breakfasts as part of the nightly charge - Hampton Inn, Drury Inn, Holiday Inn Express to name a few. For my money Hampton Inn has the best breakfast (largely based on my opinion that they have the best coffee, which may not matter if you are a tea-drinker). Also agree that toiletries are standard. Most chains will also provide combs, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, etc on request if you 'forgot" to pack them.
✈✈ Enjoy your trip - if you see George Clooney(♡) on your travels grab him and post him to me.

most hotels provide toiletries but remarkably few lay on George Clooney in guests' rooms, Susan
All the ones I've stayed in (Alabama, Kansas, Florida) have been fine in this department.
(Yes, it is a silly question - bring your own)
never stayed in a US hotel yet that hasnt provided toiletries, if they are not provided then they will have a hotel shop where u will be able to purchase.Which tour operator are u going with ? Hiltons should provide, what does your itinerary say as to which hotels you will be staying in Marriot always provide and an ironing board in every room [ a god send to travellers always on the move].
have a good holiday, I never take toiletries I buy when I get there [ they are cheaper] and discard on my last day.
also, supermarkets there usually have a 'trial and travel' section where little bottles of shampoo, liquid soap, small tubes of toothpaste etc are sold, so if you need any you don't have to buy whole gallons of them to carry around.

Thanks everyone, I find toiletries and shoes are always the heaviest items to pack. we are going with Saga (just old enough ... ) so hope we aren't voted off the coach as we don't feel old or need Zimmerframes yet. Hopefully we don't act or look old either. Sorry oldies, you know what I mean !! Still wearing jeans, shopping in primark and bleach my hair !!
