I will be driving from home to Calais and then onto Perros in Brittany later this year. Does anybody have any reccomendations with regards to which road type to use in France, either the toll roads or the normal roads? Can you also advise what items i need for driving in France? I know about the yellow jackets, light deflectors, warning triangles and spare bulbs, but anything else which could catch me out?

Well the toll roads will get you to your destination quicker as you're travelling at 130km per hour whereas on the RN roads you're mostly at 90km. However, you're on holiday and maybe seeing the scenery and stopping on the way will give you a better feel of France.
It's the gendarmes who can catch you out so make sure you're wearing seatbelts, are not eating or phoning whilst driving and your tyres and lights are in good condition. And of course, respect the speed limits as there are cameras EVERYWHERE.
Hope you have a good time.
