Self catering in Rome

My daughter and I would like to spend a few days in Rome but want single bedrooms. I have found single rooms in hotels on the continent to be expensive and wonder about renting a small flat. Have any of you done the same and do you have any recommendation or places to avoid.

I did this in Athens and it worked very well. There are quite a lot of flats on here
