I shall be taking a brief holiday in Austria in June,I have to travel by coach fom where I live to Stanstead where I fly to Salzburg. I think it will possibly be from the early hours of a Wednesday morning returning on the Saturday depending on cost of flights. I shall have hand luggage only.
Would like advice on best insures & how long it takes to get the insurance cover.

you can get travel insurance pretty much instantaneously over the phone/internet
This might be better of either in insurance or travel
You can get a policy over the counter at the Post office or many banks, or places like Tesco sell them on-line. They do vary though so you need to compare and check prices, excess levels etc.

Thanks also to you boxtops for your helpful advice, I had considered the Post Office, will walk up to my local one where they are very helpful & have a word with them.
Don't leave getting insurance till the last minute just in case you have to cancel the holiday. If for example you break a leg in May (which I hope you won't) if you haven't got insurance you won't be able to get your money back.
I use this site http://www.gotravelinsurance.co.uk/

You can get instant travel insurance or select future start and end dates. You can download all the policy documents straight away or pay an extra £1 or so to have them posted to you. It always comes out favourably for price.
