I have heard that it is possible to arrive at an airport and buy a very cheap last minute ticket as long as you are not to bothered where you go. Is this possible and if it is do you go to the individual airline or is there a central desk where all unused seats are dumped.

Olive, don't try the Airport for a cheap deal, you will end up with the opposite! It used to be the case that you would get something cheap if there were seats left, in recent years the reverse happens, Airlines give cheaper prices the further ahead you book. The best way to get a cheap deal is to contact either a Travel Agent who specialises in late business you will find them by looking at the newspaper ads or if you are if you are comfortable with booking by telephone look at Teletext. There is always the Internet although for holidays you will usually end up having to phone, airline seats can be booked on the net. My best advice would be to find a good clued up Travel Agent who you can talk to and visit if needbe. Best. Willie (Travel Agent!)
