Family member flying with BA on European flight this week. Checked on ba.com and can only see cabin luggage measurement restrictions, but no mention of weight allowance. Does this mean that there is no weight restriction on the bag? Thanks for your help

usually you (the person carrying the luggage) have to be able to lift it and put it in the overhead locker unassisted.

Thanks but that doesnt actually answer my question
Apologies if I was unclear, I meant it then depends how much you can lift. For most people, this isn't going to be more than what is normally considered as hold allowance (people usually only have a lot of hand luggage to avoid having hold luggage).

http://www.reuters.co...-Jan-2008+PNW20080104 (says no more than 23kg, same as hold)

So, assuming you can lift it and the volume requirements are met, you'd be fine. (I've never seen hand luggage being weighed)
Our hand luggage was weighed and measured for this first time last month . We were both over weight but were travelling with friends who took some of our clothes into thier hold luggage. The airline staff were very strict at all 3 airports we used.
There is no longer a set hand luggage allowance in terms of weight. The bag must be within the prescribed size given, and you may be asked to place it in a baggage gauge at check in and/or security to check this. In terms of weight, you must personally be able to lift the bag above your head in order to place it in the over head locker without assistance.
The limit is therefore the limit of your strength. Pigletion is correct, there is no fixed weight allowance.

(and yes, this is fact, not speculation!)
I can also confirm BA want you to conform to the size restrictions but it can be any weight so long as you can safely stow it in the overhead locker unassisted.
