I know someone who went to the Seychelles in December and got bitten by sandflies. Are the flies there all year round? We're thinking of going in the summer. Thanks.

The answer is yes there are sand flies there as I have come back from a lovely 10 days on Praslin and am sporting the scars from their bites! I had an allergic reaction to them which is apparently quite common according to the hotel nurse I ended up seeing as my left calf was too swollen and painful to walk on. She gave me some Caladryl which is fab and told me to ice the bites which really helped.

Avoid leafy areas on the beach and don't let them ruin your holiday. Someone else I met there said he usually reacts in a similar way and got some Jungle Formula spray repellent form a camping shop which is 90% proof or something and he had not yet been bitten...
