When I was in the guides (dib dib dib etc.) we called it "Taps", if that's what you're thinking of? I always thought the Americans called it the Last Post too.

ChocClare, wasn't "Taps" the one that went:

Day is done, gone the sun

From the land, from the sea, from the sky.

All is well, safely rest, God is nigh?

I which case I remember the tune being different from the Last Post.

...or should I have been paying more attention?

Naw your right Dusky. Taps has a different tune, quite similiar though.
Dusky, you're quite right of course.  Momentary dementia.  Which makes it all the kinder of Ian Cole to give my answer a three-star rating.  Were you muddling up the two as well, Ian?  Was it Taps you were thinking of?  Or are you just a naturally polite person who automatically thanks those who try to help (however deluded)?!  In either case, your stars are appreciated!
