As long as it is valid on the date(s) you travel it is OK.

If you renew your passport within 9 months of its expiry date then the unexpired period is added on to your new passport, so you don't lose out by renewing early.

Just to back Rollo up:

EU law obliges all EU countries to recognise all passports (of EU member states) right up until the very last second of their nominal validity.
