not certain of the implications on a Punto but most vehicles would suffer bent valves at the very least also poss broken cam, head rebuild, damaged pistons or worse.
Causes of cam belt failure ?..it should be changed every X amount of miles or every X amount of years or whatever comes first. It can also be caused by a seized waterpump or idler pully.
When was yours last changed ??
You do not tell us the year or the engine of your punto
Assuming its an early 8 valve 1.2 then there will not be any bent valves just a timing belt and possibly a tensioner
I have just replaced the belt on my Granddaughters Punto, It's not a big job, But make sure you get the head skimmed, pressure tested before RE-Fitting, also replace the tensions, Gaskets including the Thermostat, whilst you are doing the ob, replace the Fan belt you have then done the lot.
