what is the best type of malaria tablets to take for keeping safe in Mexico, in particular, Cancun? The doctor said it was optional whether to take tablets or not but having not had the best luck with mozzies, I'd rather be safe than sorry! x

Having been to Mexico several times I would say don't take malaria tablets they will leave you feeling dreadful and you don"t need them.  Buy a plug in insect repellent and have it on in your room over night I am a mossie sufferer but have had no problems on recent trips.

I went to Cancun last year for my honeymoon - wonderful - anyway, I also wouldn't bother with malaria tablets unless you are planning on going into the middle of nowhere.

I am always getting bitten, and even staying in a small resort just south of cancun, there was little point in taking these tablets.

No malaria tablets are required for Mexico.  Only a few rural areas rarely visited by tourists are low risk.  If you want to make doubly sure ask at your local chemist and they will have the most up to date information.
