What is the meaning of "commit" and "long haul" in the following sentence? "It's taken us over a year to get our first company organized. And we're committed for the long haul."

They think that the company may take some time to become successful (hence the long haul) but they are willing to stick with it (hence the committment). I guess "committed to the long haul" would have been clearer. Or, I could be wrong...
it obviously means that they are willing to struggle to make the company more of a success by commiting themselves to, the probably laborious, task ahead.
