I'm off to Florida on holiday in a couple of weeks and want to record the normal tourist highlights on film. Should I buy a Digital Camcorder in the UK or wait until we get to the States where prices look to be significantly cheaper, although I didn't see a final cost including taxes as they asked for a zip code to work it out. The other issue is what to do about the different electric voltages???

Don't forget that you may also be liable to import duties on an expensive item such as a camcorder.
Don' tell customs & excise - if you carry it back through a camcorder bag they won't know. Do bear in mind though that warranties may not be valid. Purchase it on your credit card in the states as you MAY get extra protection if it later breaks in this country (Barlcaycard are in court at the moment with the FSA/DTI (or someone) with a test csae to see if they have to honour commitments made abroad). You can easily get a 110v - 240v adapter. I would buy in the states (or even possibly the duty free shop on the way)
Buy here. You need to make sure it works and understand the functions etc before you get there. Given the money you are/will be spending on the holiday does and extra 50 really matter. At worst, buy it at the airport on the way out - it will give you something to do on the flight
I don't think it's worth the risk of waiting. If British customs decide to check they have a database of all products like this that have had VAT paid on them (individual numbers). The bigger problem though is the warranty, if it goes wrong it normally needs to be shiped back, that'll be the saving you made going down the drain. They all cope with the different voltages now, that isn't a problem

I bought mine at Heahtrow airport duty free at Dixon on the way out. Fantastic digital Sony camera, approx     ;    330. Not worth waiting to get to States, you want start filming straight away, Buy the way do not buy Dvd' s as they are not compatible with most European recorders.
