aww i wanted to see the Eiffel tower!!
Where's the stopover?

If it's at Gare du Nord, you've got loads of time. (There are plenty of attractions quickly accessible by RER or Metro services).

If it's at Charles de Gaulle airport, it takes about 40 minutes (on RER Line B) into central Paris.

If it's at Orly airport, it takes 8 minutes on the 'Orlyval' (driverless train) to get to Antony station where you pick up RER Line B for the 25 minute journey into central Paris.

If it's at Beauvais airport, you're about 55 miles from central Paris and there wouldn't be time to see anything.

Given that RER Line B serves both of the major airports (as well as Gare du Nord), it might make sense to head for St Michel Notre Dame station (which is on LIne B). As the name suggests, this is right by Notre Dame cathedral, which is worth a visit. The surrounding area is generally attractive and includes the Latin Quarter (where there are loads of good, but really cheap, restaurants).

St Michel-Note Dame station is also the point where RER Line B meets Line C. It's only a short journey along LIne C to get to the Muse d'Orsay (which, as Rosetta indicates, is a superb museum). However, it's only another few minutes along the line to Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel station, alongside the Eiffel Tower.

Chris, you are star . Can I borrow you for my trip to Oz
I was typing while you, and others, were posting(so I didn't know that your stopover was at CDG or that you wanted to see the Eiffel Tower0

Here's how I see the journey from CDG to the Tower:

To find your way, in the airport, to the RER station: 10 minutes.

Waiting for a train: 10 minutes (maximum).

Getting to St Michel-Notre Dame: 40 minutes

Finding the platform for LIne C and waiting for a train: 10 minutes

Journey to Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel: 15 minutes (maximum)

Walk to foot of Tower: 5 minutes.

So, in total, I reckon it would take 1 hours to get from CDG to the Eiffel Tower. If you turned straight round, that makes 3 ours travelling. Realistically, you could probably spend an hour soaking up the atmosphere (and buying some souvenirs) but you wouldn't have time to ascend the Tower (which, because of the queues, requires about 2 hours in total).

Personally, I'd probably just go to St Michel-Notre Dame station, view Notre Dame cathedral from the outside and then wander around the Latin Quarter.

(With apologies to SKA):

Rosetta: Of course you can borrow me for your trip to Oz - as long as we can go to the Red Desert in Western Australia -it's spectacular!

does anyone know how much it'll be to go in a taxi?
Book into a hotel.
hyperthetical q jayne
what would we do in the hotel?

lol
Taxis are an extortionate price, or were when we went a few years ago. Dont suppose its much different now. Sorry to nick your thread, but thanks for that Chris,

Rosetta you and Chris should hook up already!!
SkA, where are you off to?
Question Author
Paris and then Venice
A taxi should cost about 50 (or 60 on a Sunday or public holiday), each way:
http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/Adp/en-GB/Passa gers/Arrivees/QuitterAeroport/EnTaxi/

Looking at the times that the express buses take into the city centre (and remembering that you're travelling from the north-east of the city to the south-west corner of the city centre, i.e. right across the city centre), I'd expect a taxi to do it in about 50 minutes or so:
