we are going to greece on may 22nd and returning on 30th may 2008, my sons passport is due to expire on 03 july 2008 - does anyone know whether this passport will still be valid or do i need to renew it before we go? so many conflicting answers i have heard, some say you need 6 months left to travel, i thought that was just for countries outside the EU - a knowledgeable answer would be just fantastic!!!

All EU member states are obliged to admit any EU citizen as long as that person has proof of their EU citizenship (either in the form of a valid passport or a valid national identity card). Your passport is valid for entry to any EU country right up to the expiry date of that passport.

Even outside of the EU, the '6 month rule' is largely a myth. The USA, for example, (which has some of the strictest immigration requirements in the world) only requires that a UK passport should be valid until the day that the visitor leaves the USA. A few non-EU countries (e.g. Turkey) have a 3 month passport validity rule but hardly any countries require 6 months.

For Greece passports must be valid for length of intended stay.
The 6-month rule is an urban myth.
why not renew it now and save the worry ? thay will add the etxra months on so you wont loose out.
