can you take tinned food on a plane ? does it have to go in the hold or can you carry it with hand luggage. Going away in an apartment - just want to take a few basics as arriving late and dont want to shop straight away.

Best off in the hold - then there are no arguments about whether the tin contains a liquid or a gel or similar.

Depending on where you are going a few countries have customs restrictions on food imports.
yeah my old mum had an apple in her bag going thro customs at New Zealand (she forgot it was there, shes 75) and they treated her like a bloomin terrorist, she was terrified
better read the rules first cos hand luggage or not, some countries do not allow food, whether cooked or not!
where are you going,a lot of countries will not allow certain foods to be brought in through customs.

only going to Barcelona for the F1 - as its quite hectic dont want to shop for breakfasts . Thought i could take things like baked beans / tinned tomatoes - we arrive late so that would get us through for a day or so
i dont understand it myself, i would have loved to carry food on board not only is it expensive to buy once through security but also it would be things i wanted to actually eat! i saw people carrying tins of roses and celebrations through security in large clear bags just before xmas at birmingham airport. they had obviously bought them before checking in and they didnt get them confiscated. when we got to the canaries my mother in law came out after us and you ought to see what she had in her hand luggage. mince pies, roses, biscuits, after eights. turkish delights, the works!!!! security didnt confiscate them, instead having a laugh and my father in law saying to them that it was xmas left overs, how do you explain that one!!!?
