how long do you get to report a crash to your insurers?

you should do it asap after the accident.
As soon as reasonably practible. Delay at your peril!

thanks but is there a cut off point where you are no longer able to claim?
There should be something about this in the documentation you received when you took out your policy, but phone them and ask if you can't find it
normally ask you to report within 48hours.

the longer you leave it, the more questions I ask!!

There is no real cut-off period (unless it's a personal injury claim, then I think it's 3 years), but obviously the longer you leave it, the more hassle you will have as the insurers will not be able to check all the relevant info properly
