I would like to take my 11 year old daughter on a beachside holiday in spain but my husband is not able to come with us. Can anyone recommend a good safe beachside resort where we will feel reasonably safe on our own.

Try the Sol Principe Hotel in Torremolinos. The beach is just across the (not too busy) road, although the sand is a bit gritty. The hotel has nightly entertainment, and games through the day, plus a childrens' club in high season, so you don't need to stray too far. The food is fantastic, and the area is safe to walk after dinner. Check it out.
Anywhere along the CdSol should make you feel safe as Andy says... there is plenty of entertainment and loads of other kids on the beach for your daughter to pal up with :o)
