Touring the whole enchilada? That's a big order. It'd help if I knew where you're arriving and departing. Generally, most reputable bus tour companies do a good job of assuring you see all the sights and stay in decent places... Welcome to the U.S. by the way!
I'd buy yourself a guide book, even if it's just a general one. I have bought A Brits Guide to New York and A Brits Guide to Walt Disney World and Florida which are full of tips for us Brits. For example they tell you the different words that the yanks (and I use the term loosly!) use eg sidewalk/pavement, eggplant/augbergine/, heavy cream/double cream. They are also useful on where to find toilets (and for goodness sake, don't call them that - you ask for the restroom if in a public building like a bar or restaurant or bathroom if in someones house). Anyway, look for a guide book which does detail some of the differences between the US and Britain. Of course one of the best things about travelling in the US is that they speak a form of English, so you can understand roadsigns (in general! - yield = give way!) and there are few language difficulties!
Was your bus tour arranged in the UK or will you be arranging it in the USA? What is the name of the bus tour company?
you'll love it. People are friendly, and don't spend their time crashing cars and shooting each other. Everything is very cheap at the moment. More specific advice will depend on where you're going.
420400 - I think I read that you are starting in New York. I think you will find that the prices in New York are quite a bit higher than other parts of the country even though the shopping is interesting there - sooooo if you are traveling to other places......

Clanad i am have a two day stay at Newyork,Niagara falls,Philadelphia,Washington. Then a five day stay in Florida St Petes beach.Society the bus tour is a English company called Archers direct.
Yes Archers are a good company to go with and you see lots, the Hotels are good standards too. However I was in Washington with them on 9/11 and they left us to our own devices and we were held up there for 5 days. Other tour companiies treated their travellers well but Archers failed miserably.
