My partner and I (I'm 30 he's 32) are planning a trip to Thailand in the last week of Oct/first week of Nov and would like some advice about whether to visit Koh Samui or Krabi for the second part of the trip. Want somewhere to chill out but with a bit going on, but not too tacky. Any advice would be gratefully received.

Samui is getting tackier by the day, especially Chaweng. I was there last week for the first time in 3 years and was disappointed that it is rapidly becoming Phuket-like. Krabi is much nicer (there 3 months ago).

I'd recommend Krabi, the place is beautiful.

Didn't actually go to Krabi town, but try places like, Rai Lei, Hat Tham Pranang. You get a 10min boat from Au Nang.

Check out this website: http://www.thailand.com/travel/destination/des t_south_krabi_hatthamphranang.html

I read somewhere that Hat Tham Pranang was the 7th best beach in the world according to GQ (I think)!!!
