I've asked this before - without an informed answer.
I am thinking of a holiday in Sri Lanka but am worried that the effects of the 2004 tsunami should still be a consideration.
I'm sure the hotels will be fine - but what's happening in the local seaside areas, towns, villages beaches and restaurants? It's a long way to go - just for a good hotel!

this was written in December, so it may have changed a bit since then. But it sounds as if there's a way to go. There is wonderful scenery and historical sites in Sri Lanka, though some of it is off-limits because of rebel activity; and even a game reserve in the north where I once saw a leopard and a bear. But if you just want a beach resort, yes, there are probably other places to go; Mauritius, the Caribbean, Sharm el Sheikh, Thailand.

i am sorry, i dont know what its like now and i dont know if youve ever been, but we went years ago and its fab. the elephant orphanage, tea plantations and food to name a few things are great. i'd love to be able to take my kids there but there a bit small at the moment. i know the hotel we stayed in has all been done up, as for the rest of the country i dont know, but it was pretty ramshackle to begin with.
