Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced hotel that is handy for both Chessington & London that has family rooms. Also, any tips on what is best if you only have one day at Chessington for boy (9) and girl (6). Thanks.

we done the same but thorpe park stayed at ramada ealing hotel in ealing common near richmond, surprisingly cheap but very nice 100yds from tube station as well district and central lines.
The Chessington Tolworth Travelodge offers family rooms (sleeping 4) for 75 per night:

It's close to Tolworth station, with trains running half-hourly (with a half-hour journey time) to Waterloo.

Chessington World of Adventures isn't so big that you can't fit everything in within one day, so you've no need to be selective.
