My parents have a house in Florida, just south of Sarasota. That part of Florida is lovely, very different to the hussle and bussle of Orlando - and people think you're mad if you walk into a restaurant after about 9pm! The beaches are great and it's near enough the Everglades to be able to enjoy that area too. Flight-wise we normally go BA (as they are the only ones to fly direct to Tampa which is the nearest airport) but I normally research flight costs on opodo.co.uk, expedia.co.uk and various others to find the best deals. With car hire, we tend to go for Hertz or Avis as we've been let down by others in the past. Hope that helps!
I am flying to Tampa in a few weeks with BA but found I could have travelled for 10% less if I had booked through Airmiles even if I didn't use any Airmiles. Worth a try. BA good if you need to travel from a regional airport, make sure you put the regional airport down as your start point.
you should visit clearwater on the west coast and get self catering flats the tourist info near the marina as you arrive wiil sort you out. This place is fantastic been back 4 times good luck and enjoy
