As a general rule you nearly always get a better rate when in the resort, especially now with the pound being so strong. I always take pounds and change them there - and never pay commission
The best rates of exchange tend to be if you withdraw money from an ATM when you are there, or pay for things using credit cards.

Check to see if your bank will charge you for forign currency withdrawls. I know that Nationwide don't charge, but some of the others do.

The Post Office general offers very bad foreign exchange rate. They advertise that they don't charge commission, but that is only because they don't offer a competitive rate.

The free commission at the post office looks good but a friend said about better rate at resort
Thank you granniesmith & Pomp
i always buy some euros from 'Cheque Centre' before I go - just so as not to be stuck. Nowhere in Glasgow have I found a better rate. Agree with the others though that although my bank does administer a charge for withdrawing overseas I always get a better deal.
the post office always aims to be in the top 3 rate-wise, but you'll find other good deals if you hunt around.

I used a post offce credit card in the US just after easter, and while the rate for notes was $1.90, I got $1.98 when using the card - in fcat, on 2 of the days I got 2.001 to the .

Yes, i work for them. But with no foreign exchange charges and that rate, I think anyone would be pleased.
