Advice for a worried mother

I have just found out this evening that my 11year old daughter was hearing a voice in her head. She told me that it lasted for six weeks or so and gradually stopped in November. She has told me that she has had no problems since then. She also said that it only happened when she was reading, and that she could not make out what the voice was saying, that it was just a loud mumble. She mentioned that it might have been two different male voices but never at the same time. My daughter is a normal healthy intelligent wee girl and I have had no problems at all with her. What could be wrong? PS I am going to make an appt. to see my doc to be on the safe side, although that will not be for a week or so given the waiting times. Any Ideas? Thanks.

I am now 25 and have no health problems mental or otherwise, but this same thing used to happen to me. Again like your daughter, when I was alone, reading or in bed waiting to fall asleep. I also could never make any words out ( I don't think there were any). I can't remember when this stopped or how long it happened for. But it ihas definitely not had any adverse effect on me since. Hopefully this will reassure you that this is not unheard of. But I think if you are worried and it is upsetting your daughter then definitely go to a doctor.
Amia, what a wonderful response. I would say not to make too big a deal of it, but, please do spend more time with your daughter on her level - read her books, play her games, etc, it is important. Don't worry too much, there's always plenty of time for that.
