Can anyone recommend a B&B in or around Harrogate (within an hour's journey from the south)? Would prefer something more modern and minimalist than traditional chintzy. Thanks.

Best place to look is to Google, Trip Advisor Harrogate. This will give you a large selection of places to stay, photo's,maps, ratings and best of all reviews good and bad from people who have stayed in these establishments we have used it often and found it invaluable.
I stayed at this Harrogate B&B last August, Applewood House, and spent 4 nights there with my wife.

Recently completely renovated to high quality, one huge dining table that everyone site round for breakfast, run by a really nice and friendly couple.

Parking on the street outside.

One slight negative is that it is a 10 minute walk from centre, but if you dont mind that it is a great place to stay.

Found a review site for hotels and with Applewood House was amazed to see everyone gave it either 9 or 10 out of 10.

So I am not the only one who says how good it is

Thanks a lot - Applewood House looks like the kind of place I had in mind and looks more suitable than other options I'd found on Google. We've now booked a room there.
