Just wondering how many miles a day to consider along that part of the South West Trail. We are fit and used to hiking. We are just trying to sort out places to stay along the way and obviously that depends on how many miles we can cover each day. Everything I have read varies from 6 - 20+ miles.
Looking for answers from anyone who has hiked that section of the trail.
Thanks,
Kim

The official website grades the walk between Minehead and Combe Martin as 'Moderate/Difficult'.

The terrain is described thus: "One of the harder sections of the Coast Path, with several big hills to ascend and descend."

The distance is 35m and the website recommends allowing 3 days for the walk. This is broken into 10 miles on the first day (to Porlock Weir), 12 miles on the second day (to Lynton) and 13 miles on the final day.

If you're doing the walk as a 'fitness test', you might want to consider walking further each day but, if you simply want to enjoy the walk, it would seem sensible to follow those recommendations.

Full details of the walk, together with lots of other useful information, can be found here:

I have walked from Lynton to Combe Martin and it is beautiful. It is fairly tiring though. Getting round Hunters Inn is VERY hard going. Very very steep. You are only crossing an inlet but have to go a long long way in land (high on the banks on the inlet). It was a few years ago I did it so this may have changed.
It is well worth walking though. I'll probably upset a lot of people but Combe Martin did nothing for me. You'd be better catching the bus to Ilfracombe. I think it is much nicer. Sorry Combe Martin.
