Can I on-sell an unsued full or part of an airline ticket? If not, can I give it to a friend? Perhaps there it can be done under certain conditions?

You have to check with the airline that issued your ticket - most tickets will be non-transferrable if you bought them at a discounted rate. You can change some tickets though - but there are no general rules that airlines follow.
