I still holiday 'ere in good ol' UK. I go camping every year to Cornwall and adore it.

I think the biggest selling price of holidays abroad is (usually) guaranteed sunshine. However in all my years of going Cornwall I've only ever had one rainy fortnight down there.
When the weather's right, UK can compete with any other countries beauty, we really do have some spectacular countryside.

do you go to a big site Boo? if so what is it that draws you there? Do you not find UK hols just as/if not more expensive than foreign ones? (if you dont mind me asking).
I work for a holiday letting agency, we let out holiday cottages in a certain area, and we are really busy, so it goes to show that people do like holidaying in the uk, although id much rather go abroad!!!
I love holidaying in this country and have done so up until this year when we went abroad. I love Scarborough, Whitby, Filey etc.... It cant be beaten! Gorgeous. You just need the weather but even if it isnt great, i still love it.
When we do holiday in the UK we tend to go either to the Whitby area or to Snowdonia, but I can see why so many people go abroad because 9 times out of 10 it's cheaper, even allowing for the cost of an air ticket. I also have to admit that we spend most of our holiday time in Cyprus because we have a house there. Actually, we'll be moving full-time to Cyprus in a couple of years, so I suppose we'll then come to the UK for holidays!
We regularly go to Robin Hoods Bay as we enjoy that coast. We love walking especially the coastal paths. We've walked from Redcar to Bridlington, not all in one go I hasten to add.
We went for a week last year to New Quay, Wales, it was beautiful and are having a week in Barmouth in March. We are thinking about the Isle of Arran for the summer.
Previous years has seen us in Cornwall, twice walking on the coastal path from St Ives to The Lizzard.
Our only gripe is the expense. We like selfcatering and selfcatering for 2 is difficult to find. When you start having to pay for accommodation suitable for 4 or more it becomes very expensive and holidays abroad are far cheaper.
However, this country is so beautiful and I have no urge to go abroad.
Hiya sam sorry taken me a while to reply again - only just finished work.

Yes it's a big site, it's this one....

And yeah, I have found its just as expensive as going abroad, but considering the weather is just as good when we go and the natives speak our lingo (well almost, they can't help being Southerners- lol) I'm willing to put up with the cost.
Cumbria, Yorkshire, or the West Highlands of Scotland are absolutely beautiful and although the weather can be variable the variety of things to do are immense and can stand comparison with anything anywhere.
It struck me a few years ago that I go away to europe but haven't really visited the uk so i decided to take several holidays in the uk and you just can't beat it.
Yorkshire coast, Cumbria, Northumberland, Birmingham you just need to look for things like you would if you were "on holiday". Every City in the UK has something interesting to visit or see.
We went to the Gower in South Wales for years when the kids were little. We love it there, and although we haven't been since 2004 I can see us going again. We also love narrowboat holidays, we used to do this every year until the kids came along. We have taken them on two boat holidays now (including this summer) and they love it. Having said that we also took them to Florida last year and are going again next year, but this will be the last time as our eldest will be 16 next year, and also we won't be able to afford it again. I'm quite happy to pootle round the canals though or to visit some of the beautiful places in this country.

I agree with you that some people prefer to holiday abroad, the weather is the big draw there, though I'm sure if you asked everyone say in your street then you would find that there are still a hugh proportion of people who holiday in the UK.

Cost may come into it, but I think also the fact that we have a beautiful country with a lot of diversity so there is always somewhere that suits someone, whether it's beaches, seaside towns, moorland, mountains or gently rolling countryside.
