The Post office say either.

$US have the disadvantage that you will pay extra conversion fees when you buy them - and again if you have any left when you come home. With � you will only pay a conversion fee once - when you spend them in Thailand.

Using your plastic is better (in terms of cost anyway) than either. Debit card to get cash and credit card to spend.
In addition, the dollar is taking a hammering - which may or may not continue. If you really want TC's, Sterling is probably best. However, as Dzug says, credit cards and ATM cards are usually the best way. Check with your bank on any fees they may charge for overseas ATM use
