By 1901, when it was granted Town status, the only industry, fishing, had collapsed. Most of the farming land has been sold for development. This sleepy hollow in Norfolk now owes it's survival to tourism.
As a former resident of Sheringham for some 29 years I was forced to move to another area as the cost of housing was 30000 more than where I now live. It is a sad fact of country life that most young people can now not afford to live where they have grown up due to a lack of affordable housing.
