we normal pay for extra leg room seats when we go abroad, the cost for short haul flights is 30 each, but we have been told that if you get at check when it opens and ask if any are still available you can be upgraded for nothing! have any of you out there done this? if so is it an upgrade i ask for or extra legroom?

it varies massively between carriers. quiter flights you may get lucky and grab a exit row or front row seat for no extra charge at check-in. some will charge more at time of reservation. when i flew VA they charged in both directions (70ish) at check-in. I thought it was a bit of a money-grab policy but was worth every single penny as the 11hr flight was that much more comfortable.
you are getting a good deal @ 30.
we are off to Goa by charter in Nov and have had to pay
100 each and that is only one way so its actually 200 with return each, its worth it because its about 13 hour flight and my husband ended up with DVT about 3 years ago after flying economy and now we dont take any chances.
plus it is much more comfortable.
Pay the 30 before its too late and the space has gone.
