Minimise absorption of radiated heat from the sun?
I thought of that too. I guessed it must have something to do with reflecting heat. American Airline planes look as though they have no paint on them at all - they're a shiny metallic silver. But I suppose as they're shiny they also don't absorb heat.

let u into a little secret,,,

the mre paint that an airliner has the heaver it is,,,,

so with it having little or no paint at all will make it lighter and can go a little further without extra fuel......
