There are hand luggage restrictions at all UK airports.

One piece up to a certain size. No liquids or gels in it.
The restrictions are stated on the Department for Transport's website:

There have always been hand luggage restrictions but many people seemed to ignore them as did the airlines.

Sorry xxx for the minor rant but I am fed up with folk trying to stuff suitcases into the overhead lockers.
