Not on the National Trust ones, but have been on loads of ones with 'British Trust for Conservation Volunteers'. Especially like the ones where you get really wet and muddy, i.e canal clearing, tended to get a bit bored with dry stone walling. Can feel a bit like a student set-up at times, and people have walked out if they perceive the work to be too dirty.
From feedback I've had from people who've tried BTCV and National Trust ones, the N.T. ones have a slightly more formal set-up. What you may wish to do before commiting, is go on a day's work. BTCV certainly run many local groups that meet once a week to do tasks in local areas.
Have fun!

thanks very much for your answer.

id really like to have the time to sample a day first but if i do that there may not be any places left on the trip i want to go on. Im quite a hard soul...i have a physical job ...and have done some conservation work before but only days not a whole week project!

anyway i will try and book a place on a trip to wales if there are any left and do some conservation work locally for a couple of days even whether there are places or not.

Cant believe some people go as its too dirty!
