I have a friend flying from America and will land in bristol after a 10 hour flight at 9am (her body clock will be telling her 3am) there's then a 2 hour drive to my home. So we will get back to "base camp" around noon.

What is the best way to ease the jet lag she will be feeling? Let her nap for a few hours - keep her up until 10pm - any suggestions please of the most sensible way to retrain the body clock.

We've found the best thing to do is have a little sleep of about 2 hours soon after getting home, but put alarm on and make yourself get up, even though you won't want to, then stay up until UK bedtime. Otherwise, if you just try and tough it out the chances are your friend will fall asleep during the day anyway and may sleep for longer and feel even worse.

Oh that's excellent - I'll suggest she does that I think. If its tried and tested and works then that's good enough for me. Thank you.
I find getting hideously drunk works wonders. Seriously. Don't know what day it is, let alone the time, when I wake up following day.

yes I can go along with that suggestion too Bob - she thinks she will sleep on the plane but I think she will be lucky to even catnap.

I have to get her tired - its either chloroform or a cheaper alternative of alcohol.

Seriously, I don't want her wasting a few days here adjusting to GMT or me with a fixed smile waking up at some horrendous bl**dy hour to cook for her stomach USA time. I need an easy alternative and so far I think that 2 hours sleep then chuck her out of bed will adjust her quickest (and probably kinder than a hangover ever would)
