If you're only going for two weeks, it wouldn't hurt to take them. Luckily, if you go to Boots or someplace, just tell them you're going to Mexico, and they can serve you over the counter. And they're only about 3 for that part of the world, so that's cool! If you were going for longer it might make you ill (stomach pains etc) over a period of time, but I think it's worth it for a short trip. Ask your nurse for advice though, when you go for your Hep A + Typhiod shots. Have fun in Mexico!!
When we went to Mexico we were told that malari tablets weren't required for the east coast of mexico, only the west coast.
The British medical establishment (and of course the drugs one as well) swears by these but others do not. I avoid being bitten (avoid dusk and dark outdoors, spray with closed windows indoors, wear mosquito milk on all bare skin plus feet and ankle area even if covered when outdoors from dusk onwarsds and/or outside my controlled space such as restaurant etc.) and then get tested/cured immediately if cold/flu-like symptoms were to appear. In probably somewhere between 5 and 10 years total in malarial areas I only took the tablets for the very first 2 months or so. I have never had malaria.
