yes, use your mobile phone currency converter or the online one

When I've been travelling I find it best to do a little credit card sized "cheat sheet" with the latest conversions for 1,2,5and 10 pounds to whatever currency and then it's pretty easy to do conversions in your head using multiples of these. Bon voyage!
Excellent online converter for accurate rates is http://www.xe.com/
Hi inej, as a rule of thumb (and very quick) I just multiply the Euros by 7 to give pounds sterling. It is not 100% accurate but near as d****t. For example 10 euros x 7 = 7.00 (or thereabouts). It's close enough for most things.
Hi inej, I see I've got your question the wrong way round !! Must be an age thing......sorry about that.
Still the same waimarie 70 = 100 approx.

it's roughly 1,5

1 pound = 1,5 Euro.

That should be easy enough...

bohne i use the same method and it works fine!!

heres an idea, once you have left the UK, stop thinking in pounds!!!!!

Go to the local supermarket and check out the prices of milk bread beer. etc.. and then you wont look like a stupid tourist trying to work out how much it would have cost you at home (which wouldnt matter anyway).

@Bob a Job - what a ridiculous answer!!!

With today's technology, the poster of this question may be buying something online from a European online store and getting it shipped to the UK.

I know that I always try to find the cheapest deal and work out Euros to s in case the European shops are cheaper.

Even if (s)he is going out of the country the same still applies. For example, pair of trainers costing 30 is more expensive than the same pair of trainers costing 30 euros - which would you buy?

For the sake of a quick calculation, I'd go for the cheaper ones!! A saving of almost 10 at today's exchange rate.

And at higher priced items, the saving is obviously increased proportionally!!

Another great online converter in www.oanda.com which also has a printer friendly summary you can print out and take with you in your wallet.

i use the same conversion as mph to kmh

50 quid - 80 euros (approx)

50 mph - 8o kmh (approx)

Kills 2 birds with 1 stone - especially if you hire a car

A reasonably accurate conversion is to use 2/3 as a fraction.......2E=1.33, 3E=2 etc.
Multiply pounds by 1.5 to get Euros.
Close enough for tourism purposes.

Thank you all for your help , it is very useful, will try and learn before we go away.

For to : double it and then divide by 3 so eg: 3 x2 = 6 divided by 3 = 2

so 3 = 2 roughly!
