24 September - 23 October (or thereabouts, depending on the first sighting of the crescent moon).
Hi EleanorBevan, doesn't really matter where you are, Dubai or Doncaster. The fasting month of Ramadan starts on the 23rd September 2006 and finishes on the 22nd October 2006. After that, Hari Raya Adil Fitri.
Islamic months start when a crescent moon is actually sighted by the appropriate religious authorities, not when the calendar predicts the moon should be seen, festivals and holy days might fall a day before or after the predicted dates, perhaps due to cloud or heavy rain.
Many Muslims disagree when Ramadan should start, this is primarily because some mosques start Ramadan when their affiliate mosque in Saudi Arabia start Ramadan and others start it when the mosques in their home country starts Ramdan. The difference is because the sighting of the crescent moon is not possible at the same time in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the world. Some Muslims say they will start fasting on the 23rd Sept, other will start on the morning of the 24th Sept. Wherever you are, just assume the start date will be the date your local Islamic community representative says it will start.
