in canada capital punishment was abollished in the 1970s. since such time i have heard the government still pays and retains a person with the title of Executioner. I would like confirmation of this an if possible this Executioners salary, which is a waste of more government funds.

The Canadian Government may well have needed to retain an executioner until 1999 because although capital punishment was abolished from the Canadian Criminal Code in 1976 and replaced with a mandatory life sentence without possibility of parole for 25 years for all first-degree murders, Canada retained the death penalty for a number of military offenses, including treason and mutiny, until 10th December 1998.

I do not know if the position still exists.
