suggests that you can get a tourist visa on arrival

You'll need an Indian one even just for transit as well I would have thought. By post or in person from the High Commission in London

I would advise you sort the Indian one in person if you possibly can. The wheels turn slowly at the Indian embassy and postal applications can be painfully slow and costly!

when i went to nepal you just sorted out your tourist visa at the air port on the way into the country. i didnt do anthing with indian visa stuff because i flew strait to nepal. If you need an extention on your visa just bribe the officials on the way out, you can go to the embassy but take a nepali speaker with you and be prepared to be asked for bribes anyway. however, i went 3 years ago and things might have changed.

You will fall in love with nepal. its great!
