They would, buy they don't. Red diesel is for farm use and perhaps military use, but anything else is illegal. And please don't shout your questions!
Well the cops in my neck of the woods did a spot check recently for red diesel and they said that 40% of the vehicles they stopped were running on red diesel including HGV's and public transport vehicles. So yes it's illegal but that dosen't stop people doing it
I am an HGV driver, and whilst I have never run on red, I know some people who have. One friend of mine used to put a pint of some chemical (never did find out what) into a tank of red (about 1000 litres) and it removed the colour and looked white(clear). Also as an aside, Big mobile cranes (you know, with about 16 wheels) count as agricultural vehicles and run on red legally.
