I would like to visit Auschwitz independently preferably for a couple of days.Is it possable to reach Auschwitz by public transport?

If you fly to Krakow, you can then travel to Auschwitz by train. This site gives details. http://www.krakow-info.com/train2os.htm

Note the Polish spelling of Auschwitz on the above site. You will need to recognise this on the railway.

I took this train too. very easy bought tickets on the day and took about 3 hours.
