The costs (including the daily caps) are identical, other than the need to pay a fiver for an Oyster card.

The only people who need Oyster cards these days are those without contactless debit cards, such as children aged 11 to 15 (who can have a Young Visitor discount added onto their card).

Thank you ,as always Chris. Off up to London for a couple of days with my niece over from oz. I have an oyster she doesn't.
we just used our contactless - now we were lucky as I have a couple of pay as you go cards and we used them rather than our proper bank cards

not entirely. i have a discount applied to mine, which couldn't be applied to a contactless card. i'm not alone...... :-)
I still top up my Oyster card as I leave London and have it ready for my next journey as it saves getting the debit card out at busy stations.

Mine is a PAYG and not registered to me so if I lose or damage it I have never lost more than a few quid.

Don’t forget that you can use your bus pass inLondon if you have one.
